WRITING PROMPTS - PAGE 2
"I often wonder what life was like before the Merge, before the nodes became part of our very being. It was so long ago it’s hard to fathom—the isolation, all the uncertainty and ignorance. I don’t know how our ancestors survived."
"Sometimes, I walk around street level. Yeah…I know. Between the sun, pollution, and Greenies squatting the old sub-rails, it’s not exactly the safest place to be. But man, the view—looking up at the city blocs, how they steal the sunlight. Makes you wonder. Maybe the Greenies are right. Maybe we have lost touch."
“Did you hear about Hypoxia, that aerostat city above Caelus? They had a scare last week. Lost three of their five grav-cores and went into a slow descent. One more…they would’ve been falling like a rock. Claimed it was some kind of cascading overload in the energy matrix, a freak occurrence—that kind of perfect storm crap. Whatever. Betcha any cred Glass Curtain was behind it. Damn terrorists—getting ballsier by the day.”
"I was still trying to process everything I'd been told. It all seemed so surreal. Everyone I ever loved -- everyone I ever knew. Gone. It didn't seem possible. Could I have really been asleep that long? And the city... It was amazing, but... How could it be all that was left?"
"Why's he always gotta make an entrance?"
"Tell me about it. Nice floater, though."
"Think he stole it?"
"After we lost Earth, our colony fleet spent almost a century looking for a new home. We found the Bovi. They welcomed us with open arms, and for a few decades everything seemed to be going well. But when the outbreak occurred, they changed. Humans became the enemy, diseased vermin to be exterminated. Our old fleet is no longer space-worthy, long since stripped for parts. Now, all we can do is hide, and pray, as we struggle to find a cure."
"The colony's grown—come a long way since the early days. It's funny though... After almost two centuries, the converted Ark ships still stand taller than anything else, probably will for some time. It's nice, though. As long as they're visible, we'll never forget where we came from, and those we left behind."
"In 2245 we found a derelict trans-light gate in deep space. After decades of research, the gate was reactivated. A ship was built and exploration began. No one knew what was on the other side, or if the crew would ever be able to return."
"The Kitharians brought us here thousands of years ago, and then left. Some believe we were an experiment, a study in social development. Whatever we were to them, or are, we’ve lived here ever since, peacefully. We still search for home, Earth. It’s out there somewhere, and someday we’ll find it. I wonder if they’ll remember us—we were so few when we were taken. Perhaps the Kitharians left an impression on our ancestors, as they did us."
"Grell said we’d be square if I brought him the Raven. I thought I’d gotten lucky—caught him on a good day. I should have known better. Grell didn’t have good days. Turned out the Raven’s last known location was Jakarta, a not-so-little detail I wish I’d known before I agreed to bring him in. But I didn’t ask. So now here I am, trying to figure out where to begin. Damn… This one’s gonna take a while."
