In addition to his current project on Star Trek, David is doing freelance illustration for clients like L'Atalante (The Lost Fleet Series, Ender’s Universe, and Old Man’s War), one of France’s leading publishers of science fiction, and ImagineFX magazine. He's also doing album covers, and boardgames illustrations for Fantasy Flight Games. David credits his expansion to illustration to his primordial love for British artist and science fiction illustrator Chris Foss. As an artist, what inspires you to create science fiction? Spaceships! I just love them, all forms and shapes. What sci fi books, movies, or artists have made a lasting impression on you? Books: The Forever War, by Joe Haldeman Movies: 2001, Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner, Gravity, and Interstellar Artists: Chris Foss, John Harris, John Berkey, and Sparth (Nicolas Bouvier) With regards to intelligent life—not fauna in general—which statement do you think is most likely to be true? A.) There is an abundance of intelligent life in the universe; B.) The universe is a big place, but intelligent life is scarce; or C.) Other than mankind and our creations, there is no intelligent life to be found in this universe. I think life is universal and everywhere, but a recent news article suggests it might be more scarce than previously thought—still plenty of it, anyway. |
